Passers-by have presumed that the works in Unremarkable Moments - Josephine Regan's collection of bisque-fired clay pieces - are everything from a koru to a drawing of a spiral to plumbing fixtures to some kind of creature.

For the artist, however, they represent moments in time - similar but unique creations in a series that has no defined beginning or ending."Most of the time it is hard to put a value on what you are doing," says the Otago Polytechnic Master of Fine Art student, who has a particular interest in art as an everyday occupation. "It is difficult to say that one moment is more important than the next. I have tried to make all my moments in this work important. Each small piece develops its own character, but all are equally valued."

A second element of Regan's exhibition - 547 drawings displayed on three digital photo frames in the hospital foyer - emphasises her journey through the creative process, directed by the satisfaction of the occupation.

"I am interested in the process of creating art far more than the finished product. In this series I sat down and started drawing, just experiencing the pleasure of using the materials. Then I'd think 'that's a nice effect, let's do more of that'. The process was aesthetically enjoyable."

Regan is a local artist who exhibits her work regularly as well as working at the community studio space Artsenta where she currently teaches drawing.
