After intensive judging over Queen's Birthday weekend, the 2004 winners of the New Zealand Professional Photography Awards were announced at Auckland's Carlton Hotel this evening.

Tony Carter enjoyed luck for a third time as he was named Canon Photographer of the Year for 2004. Carter, based in New Plymouth, won the accolade in 2000, and 2003.

"I don't know what I'm doing most of the time, but I must be doing something right," commented the humble Carter.

After bringing home three category awards, Ross Brown experienced a mild state of dejà vu as he accepted the AIPA Brian Brake Memorial Award for the second year in a row. His winning image for the People category brought tears to the eyes of some of the audience.

Ian Robertson was the grateful recipient of the nzipp Geddes Award presented by Anne and Kel Geddes. "I want to thank kiwi's for doing so much for me. We wanted to give something back," said Anne as they presented the award to Ian Robertson. "This is a breath of fresh air and reminds us of what it's all about," said Robertson.
