Presented by Playmarket, the very first Wellington Write Out Loud is a weekend of rehearsed readings of Wellington playwrights' works at Circa2 on October 11-12. It follows on from two years of the successful Write Out Loud programme in Dunedin.

This year sees the presentation of four new New Zealand works interspersed with drinks and discussion with the playwrights. Presented by Playmarket, the very first Wellington Write Out Loud is a weekend of rehearsed readings of Wellington playwrights' works at Circa2 on October 11-12. It follows on from two years of the successful Write Out Loud programme in Dunedin.

This year sees the presentation of four new New Zealand works interspersed with drinks and discussion with the playwrights.The weekend is vital, thanks to the major support from The Wellington City Council, in bringing the theatre community and new audiences together to celebrate brand new Wellington Theatre. It also creates a genuine opportunity for them to engage with producers, independent and professional theatres.

An intimate exploration of unconventional attraction between two seemingly opposite individuals, who discover they have more in common than their desire.

Lucy O'Brien's writing career started at 17, when she won the Playmarket NZ Young Playwrights' Competition for her play Life's Little Losses, which went on to be performed in the 2001 Fringe Festival. She has a BA in Film and Theatre and an MA in Scriptwriting. She has written for Radio New Zealand National and worked with the Gibson Group on their C4 series 'My Story'. O'Brien then needed a break and spent a short time working as a postal services officer for Australia Post. Postal has been a long time coming for O'Brien, as she has found the exorcism of her "worst job ever" extremely cathartic.

Vanessa Rhodes studied Theatre at Victoria University and trained as an actor, graduating from Toi Whakaari in 1997. Vanessa graduated with an MA in scriptwriting with distinction from the IIML. There she wrote The Bright Sea, which was part of the 2005 Adam Playreading series. In 2003 she wrote and directed Where are you my only one? as part of the To Russia with Love season at Silo Theatre. In 2005 while a resident at The Robert Lord Cottage in Dunedin she developed it as a longer work, with support from Creative New Zealand.

Geraldine Brophy is a highly respected actress, with over 22 years in the industry in Theatre, Film and Television. Her career as a dramatist began with the highly praised The Viagra Monologues at the Herald Theatre in Auckland in 2003. Her best known work Confessions of a Chocoholic, which debuted in 2004 and has since gone on to tour nationally. She recently starred in the film Second Hand Wedding, which she deservedly won the award for Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at the Qantas Film and Television Awards, and smashed NZ box office records.

Gavin McGibbon graduated from the New Zealand Film School in 2003, and in 2005 he completed his MA in Scriptwriting under Ken Duncum. In 2006 his first play After Service debuted and went on to open the at Dark Room Theatre at Centrepoint. In 2007 his second play produced Stand Up Love has been adapted on commission into a feature length radio play by Radio New Zealand. In 2008 he had two premieres at BATS Theatre Shipwrecked Beneath the Stars and Handy Man.
