The Weinstein Company (TWC) and IFC Entertainment have co- acquired all North American rights to the horror-comedy Black Sheep, which will be distributed through IFC's First Take distribution banner. The joint announcement was made on November 3 by Michelle Krumm, Executive Vice President of Acquisitions for The Weinstein Company, and Jonathan Sehring, IFC Entertainment President.

Written and directed by newcomer Jonathan King, in Black Sheep an experiment in genetic engineering turns harmless sheep into blood-thirsty killers that terrorise a sprawling New Zealand farm. The physical effects were produced by Weta Workshop, the company known for its work on The Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong.

Sehring commented, "Jonathan's film was all the buzz at The Toronto Film Festival and we are thrilled to be working with the Weinsteins to ensure it reaches a national audience. Black Sheep is a funny and macabre dissection of the monster genre that echoes of early Peter Jackson and in my humble opinion is the greatest film about man eating killer sheep I have ever seen."

Michelle Krumm stated "It's great to be involved with the New Zealand Film Commission and we think Jonathan is an extremely talented filmmaker."

Black Sheep will be released in New Zealand by Hoyts Distribution on behalf of Icon Films in March 2007.
