Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) Visual Art students now can study on the new 2004 Bachelor of Visual Arts degree programme, which is the first Visual Arts degree in Wellington.
The Bachelor of Visual arts is taught within the Centre for Creative Industries, which is the new WelTec school that has been designed to support the emerging imagination economy. Students are taught how to be professional multi-disciplinary artists and will have more opportunities to live off their art. Live jobs and work experience are included in the course.

Lorraine Rastorfer, Head of Visual Arts, isexcited about the degree programme, as "it will give our students the recognition they deserve for the excellent work they do. We have fantastic facilities including our own gallery 'The Fridge' and cool studios, great staff and the students will now be able to enjoy learning about how to make art for another year and be rewarded for their knowledge and skills with a degree and real job opportunities"

Students on the Visual Arts programme have recently exhibited in a highly acclaimed exhibition at The Dowse and will be involved in a number of other projects that will ensure that WelTec's Visual Arts degree students will get all the attention they deserve.
