The Version Festival in Auckland presents a festival of future arts and entertainment featuring a unique mix of aural and visual delights in a variety of venues.

Showcasing original performances by innovative digital media artists exploring creative new uses of technology, the acts presented at Version will entertain and stimulate with a unique mix of art, design, music,
science and technology. Techno-savvy artists from each of the disciplines will collaborate to come up with original performances. These events are a combination of eclectic experiences - gallery, lounge, cinema, seminar, concert and club.

A typewriter customised to play music, a collection of gadgets on a table that create orchestral sounds and artists who turn sounds from outerspace, streamed via various satellites and the Internet, into music and film.

Just a few of the unique aural and visual delights on offer at the second Version festival which will take place at half a dozen Auckland venues from
December 4 to 9, 2004.

During Version 2004 assorted techno-savvy geniuses will collaborate with adventurous musicians and artists, animators and designers from various
disciplines to come up with original performances.

The weeklong event last year attracted almost 1000 people and organisers are hoping the 2004 festival, which will feature up to 50 performers with
several acts each evening, will attract larger audiences.

International acts are taking part and there will also be a bigger emphasis on all-encompassing experiences - with guests enclosed by surround-sound and
several screens of visuals - as well as a variety of seminars and workshops from the country's leading electronic artists. Performers include Nao Tokui
(Tokyo), Phil Dadson, Rosy Parlane and Radioqualia.
Organiser Kitt McGregor explains that Version was established as a way of showcasing some of the cutting edge electronic art and music that wasn't
being represented anywhere else.

"It's something like a digital version of AK05 [the Auckland arts festival]," he explains, "all about creative use of technology. It's a sort of summit of technicians, musicians, artists and 3D animators showing what they do on their days off."

Version takes place in several Auckland venues from December 4 to 9.
