Programme makers want an explanation from TVNZ's board after plans by the public broadcaster to cut back on key charter shows.

Arts and other charter shows, including Frontseat (fronted by Oliver Driver, right), are understood to be facing a reduction in air time next year, hot on the heels of TVNZ's announcement it will not support a 2007 Festival documentary series. Screen Production and Development Association chief executive Penelope Borland said local producers were "very, very worried". "It's not just this (Festival axing) going on. Other producers have been notified that they're going to have fewer shows next year than they expected going to air."
