Kate Stockford in 1994, had completed a 4-year BA in Graphic Design at the now AUT. In early 1995 she began work with Pacific Renaissance Pictures on 'Hercules' and then the well-known and long-running film 'Xena'.
Kate is still a freelance contractor to the film industry- when not a fulltime mother to a three year old daughter. A love of nature, inspired by the book 'Fairie-ality' and the glamour of 1930s designer Lanvin, encouraged an entry into Waitakere City's 10th Trash To Fashion last year.
Once designed, her costume was constructed with tapa cloth scraps, 1000's of fallen Rewarewa leaves, skeletal Mahoe leaves, Toetoe, poppy seedheads and a mothwing brooch. This resulted in "a very highly crafted garment for this Competition" - winner of the Down To Earth Category and finally Supreme Award Winner of the 2005 Trash To Fashion, held at the Waitakere City's Trust Stadium.
