Toycology - an exhibition of new photography by Adi Brown - opens at Thistle Hall on 22 May. Influenced by 19th century tableau photography and studio portraiture, Toycology explores the relationship between mass-produced objects and human expression. Engaging in silent dialogue with each other and the audience, the toys playfully re-enact staged dramas reminiscent of our own desires, obsessions and anxieties. Engaging in silent dialogue with each other and the audience, the toys playfully re-enact staged dramas reminiscent of our own desires, obsessions and anxieties.Adi Brown was born in Christchurch and is currently based in Wellington. She was a finalist in the Norsewear Art Award and the CoCA Anthony Harper Art Award in 2006, and in the prestigious Painting and Printmakers Award in 2007.

Her photography was exhibited in the Birds exhibition at Pataka Gallery, Petone in 2006 and at the Sargeant Gallery in Wanganui in 2007. May is a busy month for Adi - she is also part of a group show at Massey University's The Engine Room.
