Opening on 14 December at Corban Estate Arts Centre is an exhibition of works by The Urban Archaeology Collective. The artists - Louise Dentice, Judy Meehl, Helen Perrett, Judy Rae and Hilary Kerrod - all work in clay, and came together as a collective after completing an inner city art school course run by influential Auckland teacher Bronwynne Cornish in 2005. Since then the group has continued to engage in co-operative projects.In an essay on the exhibition, Sue Gardiner writes: "Recognising that the world is a fast changing place with no certainty of history or of the future, The Urban Archaeology Collective engages with the imaginative realm, constructing histories, dialogues, directions and experiences when creating objects with clay. While their group dynamic might be nomadic, porous even, they do value some core principles which guide them through their making."
