Scholarship Information

This scholarship is open to unpublished* writers who wish develop their creative writing skills with a view to achieving publication, and will pay the fees of the Waiariki Certificate in Creative Writing for one year.

Entry Criteria

- Applicants should be unpublished* writers
- There is no age limit for applicants but you must be either a New Zealand Citizen or hold New Zealand Residency
- Because the Certificate is taught online, applicants must have reliable access to a computer and internet connection .
- Applicants are asked to submit two pieces of writing up to 500 words in any two of the following genre: short story, poetry, review, comment, or essay. In addition, the application should include a piece of no more than 300 words on why they should be the recipient of the scholarship.
- Work must be the original work of the applicant.
- Applicants under the age of 18 must have signed parental/guardian approval attached to their application form.
- Applicants must not be currently employed in a field directly connected with fiction or non-fiction writing.
- The successful applicant will be expected to complete the course work on time and pass all courses, and to acknowledge the Scholarship in their future CV.
