The Incubator is a performance cafe-style event designed to give Wellington's creative performing arts professionals a chance to workshop, collaborate and perform in a casual atmosphere.
It aims are to foster new work, create opportunities for performance, encourage collaboration between artistic fields, and present Wellington talent to the public.

Who is involved?
The concept for The Incubator came from Emma Deakin and Angela Green (A & E Productions).
Emma and Angela are recent graduates from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School, who identified a need for creative stimulus in-between professional engagements.

Initially, they both wanted a chance to try out ideas for scenes and shows in front of a supportive audience. This idea grew to encompass other creative professionals, such as dancers, choreographers, directors, musicians and writers.

Currently, around 20 creative professionals have been directly involved in performing and/or writing work for The Incubator. Considering we have only had two shows so far, this support is encouraging!

What types of works are shown?
So far, we have had scenes from newly written plays, devised dance/movement pieces, a series of improvised scenes, new choreography and performance poetry.

We hope that writers will offer scripts for actors to perform; that directors will come forward with ideas they want to try; that dancers will showcase new choreography; that film-makers will use our performers for a new film; that actors will try out scenes from plays they love, or write their own - We feel that the possibilities are endless!

When does The Incubator happen?
There is a public show of The Incubator every month. Prior to performance, interested performers meet regularly to rehearse or devise at a rehearsal space managed by A & E Productions. They each pay a small donation to cover hire costs.

The public show is currently held at Thistle Hall, 293 Cuba St., Wellington. Entry to the event is by donation.

We will soon be looking for a larger venue to accommodate our growing audience.

The important thing to remember is that The Incubator is a minimal-stress, highly creative venture. We do not push you into a 'finished product' because we encourage exploration and collaboration.

However - The standard we require is that you are happy and comfortable presenting your work to the public.
