Nominations are open for The Greatest Idiot in New Zealand, an idiot not in the sense we might think, but instead based on Dostoyevsky's enigmatic character; Prince Myshkin, from his novel 'The Idiot'.

The special public project is part of the Auckland Festival 2009 and is being run by two internationally renowned St Petersburg based Russian 'situationist' artists Tsaplya and Gluklya of 'The Factory of Found Clothing'. The special public project is part of the Auckland Festival 2009 and is being run by two internationally renowned St Petersburg based Russian 'situationist' artists Tsaplya and Gluklya of 'The Factory of Found Clothing'.They will be artists in residence at Unitec Design from February 5 to March 19 and will show collaboratively 'made in NZ work' at MIC Toi Rerehiko and at Snowhite Gallery. They will also participate in Symposiums in Auckland and in Dunedin and give artists talk at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery. See a fuller description of their practice here.

Nominations are being called for 'The Greatest Idiot in New Zealand'. The work made for MIC Toi Rerehikoi will be about and in honor of the winning nominee.

Essentially you need to nominate the most compassionate person you know and present a statement and/or evidence as to why you think they are worthy of being "The Greatest Idiot in New Zealand". Your nomination needs to be made by February 1.
