The eye of Ans Westra
by Bianca Zander
It took a Dutch woman to see our strangeness and photograph it, so that we might one day see it, too.
For once, it is sunnier in Wellington than it has any right to be, but after a cheery, "Halloo!" at the gate, Ans Westra ushers her visitor around the back of the house and down into the sudden gloom of her subterranean flat. She owns the whole house, but, in the first of a succession of eccentricities, chooses to live underneath it, in a series of rooms with as much natural light as a cave.
