10 Acre Blok is a large improvising ensemble with an ever-changing lineup, culled from the furthest extremities of the Auckland music scene and beyond. Instruments range from electronic to acoustic, sometimes including turntables, tablas and even typewriters, played by some of NZ's leading musicians and sound artists.
For the recent Version Electro-Sonic festival a small number of the group produced a full sonic assault using and experimenting with the fragile and volatile state of high gain and feedback. The Eden Terrace area, still ringing with tinnitus, trembles with fear at the merest hint of a repeat performance. A more recent outing on the rooftop of Creative New Zealand's Auckland office saw duelling guitars, vibraphone, saxophone, bird-sounds and other sweet sounds filtering out into the clamour of rush-hour downtown traffic. Imagine the chaos and bemusement they could unleash at the Big Day Out!
