Tama Ma, an autobiographical journey of Okareka Dance Company's Taiaroa Royal and Taane Mete, has won the Tempo Spirit of the Festival award. Tama Ma also won Best Production, Best Set and Best Lighting.
The Audience Choice award was won by Touch Compass for their new show Harmonious Oddity, while Michael Parmenter's Tent picked up Best Male Performer, Best Female Performer and Best Music. The 2008 Tempo Award Ceremony was a night of celebration for Claire O'Neil who picked up the Best Choreography by an established Artist for the stunning MTYLand. Liana Yew was thrilled to win the Best Choreography by an emerging artist for her work Kiwi in Prime Cuts.
Wellington hip hop collective Legacy Dance Crew picked up Best Youth Production for The Chronicles, meanwhile the novel Yours Truly Productions, with their show Infatuated By Verses (set in their lounge in Mt Eden), picked up Most Innovative Choreography and Best Dance Film/Use of Digital Media.
The 2008 Tempo Award Ceremony was held in the glamorous surrounds of Shanghai Lil, the exquisiteness of the location was a true reflection of the elegance and quality of the performances seen this year.

Taiaroa Royal and Taane Mete - Tama Ma
The New Zealand Dance Festival Trust presents Tempo, NZ's Festival of Dance, the annual festival that celebrates dance in all its forms and styles. Tempo 08 is the fifth festival under the Tempo banner. This year's festival included 1000 performers, 17 venues and 122 performances, events, workshops, classes and forums.
Tempo's philosophy is to increase, enhance and support society's appreciation and experience of dance and how it relates to them.
