Sean Crawford has won the ABN AMRO Craigs People's Choice Award for his steel sculpture Tane's Cloak at the closing ceremony of Sculpture in the Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum.

He received the $1500 award for his sculpture, which received more than 18% of the votes cast by visitors during the Waikato Sculpture Trust's exhibition, which started in November.

Crawford's creative development took him from a plumbing job in suburbia to an awakening of his desire and flair for art and design while travelling on his OE in Europe.Returning home to New Zealand, he discarded his trade and at the age of 30 made the decision to pursue four years of study, gaining a Bachelor of Design with Honours.

He currently lives in the Wairarapa and has participated in several other sculpture exhibitions at the Sculpture Park through the past few years.

Crawford will be working on metal sculpture on site at the Sculpture Park from Waitangi Day, February 6-10.

The Waikato Sculpture Trust continues to show a range of more than 70 sculptures within the Park until the middle of March when the completely new exhibition, 'E:SCAPE Sculpture in the Landscape' begins.

The Sculpture Park is open every day from 10 am until sunset.
