Opening at The Suter on 7 July, Spirituality in the Public Domain invites the public to actively participate - touching works, smelling embedded fragrances and listening to music the artist composed for specific works. "It fascinates me that the beliefs we value most are talked about least," says the artist, Radha Sahar. "That's where art comes in. Art is the arena where taboos are ignored, where beliefs are challenged, where we can stand on the edge."Opening at The Suter on 7 July, Spirituality in the Public Domain invites the public to actively participate - touching works, smelling embedded fragrances and listening to music the artist composed for specific works. "It fascinates me that the beliefs we value most are talked about least," says the artist, Radha Sahar. "That's where art comes in. Art is the arena where taboos are ignored, where beliefs are challenged, where we can stand on the edge."Sahar's abstract/symbolic paintings and installations explore secular spirituality as well as a variety of spiritual traditions.

Where she uses text, it is in inclusive language. Previous viewers have expressed that their beliefs are respected: religious leaders were consulted and the works were blessed or endorsed by them. The multi-cultural nature of the show generates a strong feeling of humanity.

The exhibition is a multi-sensory experience that provides accessibility for the blind and those with special needs while engaging people of all ages and cultures.

Says the artist: "Though spirituality is my subject, I do not belong to a religion; I've friends in many faith traditions and cultures, and I am interested in what makes our lives meaningful."
