Live, improvised music, video, theatre and dance spread over three nights, two countries and two dynamic capital cities. Simultaneon is an international transfer of visual and audio stimulants taking place concurrently in Wellington and Berlin as part of the 2011 Wellington Fringe Festival. 

Produced by risk-taking production company, Sumone Productions, Simultaneon is an improvised, reciprocal piece conceived and performed online via live video streaming. With production teams based on opposite sides of the globe, Simultaneon addresses the modes of modern communication and international collaboration made possible by the internet.

”Expect a journey of metaphysical proportions,” advise the producers, Wellington-based Nathan Taare and Berlin-based Dylan Bakker, both of whom grew up in the Hutt Valley.

In Wellington, musicians will perform an experimental soundtrack which will be fed to Berlin where performance artists, dancers and VJs will combine to produce a live, single-take video experience to be relayed back to the Wellington venue as visual accompaniment to the music.

The performance spans three nights and tells the story of Brave Morepork, a boy from a universal culture, experiencing pure events and emotions in an abstract setting. Themes of communication, ritual, tribalism, family and self exploration will be augmented using symbolism, metaphor and physical expression.

For producers Nathan and Dylan, this live performance is the natural evolution of a creative collaboration spanning more than ten years and four continents. The international combination of music and visual elements is a chromatic, surreal experiment that they hope will inspire performers and audiences alike.

Wellingtonians have a chance to see Simultaneon at The Garden Club from 1 - 3 March 2011 at 8pm during the Wellington Fringe Festival. Bookings can be made at Bats Theatre. Berliners can join the cast and crew for breakfast during the live performances at Tacheles, from 8am each day from 1 - 3 March.

Sumone Productions, the team behind Simultaneon, are primarily a film production company where experimental and artistic works are given priority. Features of the catalogue include the first live music video performance in Berlin’s former central city airport Tempelhof (Newist – Old Man 98 music video) and several international collaborations where video and audio production were completed simultaneously and independently in different hemispheres.
