Short Fuse features this intriguing doco by new director, Kathy Moriarty. K'Road - sexy and sassy by night, edgy and avante-garde by day. But could all this be about to change? Could Auckland's iconic red-light district be about to go straight? This documentary takes a light-hearted look at changes which are taking place in Auckland's notorious K'Road. It reveals that people's perception of the street as an area overrun with brothels, strip clubs and prostitutes is out of date and that, in fact, respectability and rising rents have reduced the once infamous icon of the sex industry to a shadow of its former self. It does this through a series of interviews with key players on the street including the Town Centre Manager, a K'Road historian and a representative from a property development group. Comments from fringe retailers in the area and street footage also show the contrast between the style of business K'Road has traditionally attracted and that which it has more recently embraced.

Further to this vox pops with night-time revellers and footage from a drag queen cabaret give testimony to the fact that the street is still a popular evening entertainment area, but with less sinister overtones.

Kathy Moriarty is a first-time director with a background in journalism

and communications. She recently graduated from South Seas Film &

Television School where she majored in directing.
