Director Mark Albiston's short film Run has been selected to compete at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival in May. Only 11 international short films were selected this year to compete for what is arguably the world's most coveted short film award, the Palme d'Or. Written by Louis Sutherland, the film follows a Samoan brother and sister who live in fear of their over-protective widowed father. The children learn that only together can they show him that he is their biggest obstacle.Director Mark Albiston's short film Run has been selected to compete at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival in May. The children learn that only together can they show him that he is their biggest obstacle.The inspiration for the film came from Sutherland and Albiston's experiences growing up on the Kapiti Coast during the '70s and '80s.

"It's a personal tale about a small Samoan family trying to fit into a dominant culture and society, a theme resonating with many families moving to a 'new neighbourhood' anywhere in the world," says Sutherland.

Run was produced by Robin Murphy, and executive produced by Nik Beachman and Andrew Bancroft of Short Intercept, who were also the executive producers of last year's Nature's Way which was also selected for competition at Cannes.
