Filmmaker Sir Peter Jackson and opera singer Dame Malvina Major have been awarded the highest Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Concert pianist Michael Houstoun, Auckland Art Gallery director Chris Saines and author Owen Marshall were made Companions, and NZ Fashion Week creator Pieter Stewart was made a Dame.

Other creative New Zealanders recognised included musician Bret McKenzie, opera singer Margaret Medlyn, Christchurch’s Court Theatre chief executive Philip Aldridge, artist Shane Cotton, art dealer Peter McLeavey and producer David Gibson.

Below is the list of creative New Zealanders who received a Queen’s Birthday Honour. Services to arts, music, film, television, broadcasting, theatre, fashion, literature, publishing, poetry, visual arts and art philanthropy were recognised.

Sir Peter Jackson and Dame Malvina Major were made an additional member to the Order of New Zealand, along with Prince Philip and Dame Margaret Clara Bazley, in the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Honours list.
