Manukau Libraries have launched a new youth photographic competition called All Eyes on Manukau aimed at confronting the 'South Auckland' stereotype and celebrating the diversity of the city.

Youth are encouraged to take photos of 'their' Manukau, giving them the chance to profile their daily lives, family, friends, neighbourhoods and things that matter to them.Manukau Libraries have launched a new youth photographic competition called All Eyes on Manukau aimed at confronting the 'South Auckland' stereotype and celebrating the diversity of the city.

Youth are encouraged to take photos of 'their' Manukau, giving them the chance to profile their daily lives, family, friends, neighbourhoods and things that matter to them.Learning and Literacy Coordinator Jody Gayton is hoping the images teen enter will reflect the dynamic, positive side of life in Manukau.

"Manukau is a great place to live although this is not always reflected in the media. All Eyes on Manukau gives young people the chance to show the rest of New Zealand how proud they are of the city and what they love about it," says Jody.

Entries will be judged by Vinesh Kumaran an emerging young Manukau photographer who has just been awarded a place in the Art Source development programme. He has worked with a number of leading commercial photographers both internationally as well as locally. Vinesh has contributed to various magazines such as Metro, BMW, Top Gear and AA Directions magazine.

The top prize for the best photo is a digital camera and there will be a people's choice award as well. Chosen semi-finalists will be displayed at various Manukau Libraries and the public will be asked to vote for their favourite.
