Wellington's finest designers, artists, architects and writers will present an inspirational stew of ideas and creative projects at Pecha Kucha on May 28 at TheNewDowse.

Tapping into the demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, Pecha Kucha has spread throughout the globe to more than 120 cities including London, Shanghai, Berlin and Seattle. Pecha Kucha is a presentation format for creative work originally devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein-Dytham Architecture (KDa) in Tokyo, Japan in 2003 as a place for creative types to meet, network, and show their work in public. The name derives from a Japanese term for the sound of conversation ("chit-chat") and it's where you get to talk about whatever you want in 20 second sound-bites.

The presenters will give brief presentations accompanied by 20 images, each of which is shown for 20 seconds, about a topic of their choosing giving a total presentation time of 6 minutes 40 seconds. Presenters (and much of the audience) are usually from the design, architecture, photography, art, music and creative fields and with up to 14 presenters in a night there's bound to be something to spark your own creativity.

Pecha Kucha has tapped into the demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. Pecha Kucha Night was voted Best Inspirational Event in the Metro 2007 Best of Auckland awards.
