"Life itself is not the reality. We are the ones who put life into stones and pebbles." Frederick Sommer
Digital imagist Ashley Turner's muted silhouettes of jagged treelines and subtropical flora pulse across his canvas like aura readings.
Light boxes hum with the intensity of a heat haze. Figurative dreamscapes create a sense of place sublimely sunblind and defocused - a waking state between sleep and consciousness.
Sunsets from ground zero, retro-graphic satellite pictures -of future landscapes- from a sparkling planet. Earthy tones and surreal blues burn with the promise of an endless summer's day.
Abstract and hallucinatory; Turner's images are the results of in-digi-camera tinkering; freeform focusing, pushed contrast and exploratory use of colour saturation.
Aotearoa's bush has never looked so chic.
Ashley Turner has been making photos for twenty years. Whilst being no stranger to analogue techniques he now prefers the immediacy of digital in the transference of his ideas.
