The Top Twins were inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame and OpShop's song One Day won the song of the year at the 2008 APRA Silver Scroll Awards last night.

"With their unique brand of music laced with politics and humour, Lynda and Jools occupy a secure place in the NZ heartland," said APRA Writer Director Arthur Baysting. "Through their songs, their television shows and their live appearances, the Topps have achieved Kiwi icon status."

At the beginning of the awards night there was also a tribute to the late singer-songwriter Mahinarangi Tocker with a performance of her song 'Forever' by an ensemble including Shona Laing, Hinewehi Mohi and Avondale College's choice & kapa haka group.The Top Twins were inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame and OpShop's song One Day won the song of the year at the 2008 APRA Silver Scroll Awards last night.

The song also received the award for the Most Performed Work in New Zealand.

"Opshop richly deserve the honour as they have written a song that has been embraced by the nation. It's a beautiful example of the craft needed to raise a song above another - it's simple but hugely emotive," said APRA NZ Director, Anthony Healey.

"We are extremely proud to showcase all the finalists and all the winners. New Zealand music and especially these songs remain vibrant and original," said Healey.

The finalists for top songs were Liam Finn, Anika Moa, the Phoenix Foundation and Elemeno P.
