Artstation presents Odd Objects, a combined photographic exhibition that looks at the art of collecting and possessing artifacts.

Contemporary photographers Alex Burton and Naomi Bell bring together their two very different collections from 13 to 30 August.

Naomi Bell has photographed objects collected over decades at the Birkenhead College art department, as a link to the past, people and things lost.The late head of the department, Colin Dobson, who passed away in 2006, once owned many of the items photographed by Ms Bell. "The idea of collecting and possessing items, whether beautiful or not is ingrained in our society," says Ms Bell.

Alex Burton's collection focuses on the transportation of meaning from an object to a photograph and was originally commissioned by the Auckland Museum Land Vertebrates collection in 2006.

During his time as an employee of Auckland Museum, Mr Burton began taking photos of various museum collections. The Odd Objects collection has enabled him to remove the identification numbers and focus on the artistic quality of the artifacts.

Opening night for Odd Objects is Tuesday, 12 August and the exhibition continues until 30 August.
