DANZ and the Dance Subject Association amongst others, this year advocated for and supported the proposal to NZQA that dance be recognised as a scholarship subject in schools.
Following consultation with the sector, strong support was found for its inclusion as an examination subject and as a result of a review undertaken by NZQA, Dance was found to meet the criteria for it to be included in NZ Scholarship.
NZQA have now confirmed that Dance will be examined as a Scholarship subject from 2011.
Tania Kopytko from DANZ says "this is exciting news indeed and has created a continuum, from learning of dance in school through to the tertiary training system."
