Nora West likes street art. She learnt her trade in and out of London art schools in the 60s. K Road today reminds her of Brick Lane in London back then - a mix of exotic cultures and lifestyles alongside an old world community of people and buildings with a great tolerance and good humour throughout. Nora West likes street art. She learnt her trade in and out of London art schools in the 60s. K Road today reminds her of Brick Lane in London back then - a mix of exotic cultures and lifestyles alongside an old world community of people and buildings with a great tolerance and good humour throughout.Her art career has spanned tertiary teaching, solo exhibitions, deckchair design and gallery management. In 2000 she wrote a master's thesis on Protest Banners in New Zealand and is well remembered as founder of the Gully Lounge Gallery in St Kevin's Arcade.

As a bannermaker she has operated in the outsider margins of the visual arts, working with all kinds of rural, refugee, prison, and mental health communities. She currently teaches art theory and practice at Paremoremo (Forgery Intermediate) and sources, develops and manages arts projects for the K'Road Business Association.

Nora's most recent and highly successful project was the restoration of the VAANA Mural (Visual Artists Against Nuclear Arms). You can read the VAANA history and see the project at www.kroad.com
