Choirs Aotearoa New Zealand Trust Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Roger Lloyd as Chief Executive of Choirs Aotearoa New Zealand (CANZ).

Roger Lloyd is well known in the New Zealand performing arts scene. Prior to immigrating to New Zealand in 1993, he enjoyed a 12-year career as a professional clarinettist in the United Kingdom before turning to arts management as the inaugural Manager of the Ulster Orchestra Society. In this role he oversaw the amalgamation of the Ulster Orchestra with the BBC Northern Ireland Orchestra and the building of the Orchestra’s national and international profile over a 12-year period.

In New Zealand, Roger was Artistic Manager of the NZSO, and for six years managed the Wellington Sinfonia (Vector Wellington Orchestra) seeing it through a period of consolidation and artistic growth. More recently he has assisted many organisations as an arts consultant, with periods managing the New Zealand String Quartet Trust, and the Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre in Upper Hutt. He continues to manage the ‘Classical Expressions’ concert series in Upper Hutt and is a regular contributor to Radio NZ Concert.  He is currently Manager of the national Adam Chamber Music Festival in Nelson, and Registrar of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers.

CANZ Chair, Dr Alan Walmsley, sees Roger Lloyd’s appointment as a very exciting prospect. “The role of Chief Executive at CANZ is becoming more demanding as the organisation matures and as the New Zealand Chamber Choir and New Zealand Youth Choir, under the direction of Associate Professor Karen Grylls, build on their reputation as New Zealand’s premier Choirs. Roger, through his broad experience base and track record of success in developing Arts organisations, will provide the solid and stable platform needed to raise the profile and enhance the reputation of the Choirs. In his role as Chief Executive, Roger will be seeking further opportunities for our singers to display their talent and musicianship to audiences both in New Zealand and abroad.”
