NELSON now has an art gallery where artists can submit work of a decidedly fringe nature so long as there is a predominantly recycled or reuse element to the materials or objects employed.

Artists including Eme Kilkenny, Murray Sparrow, Duncan Leask, Tipene Ryan-Smith, Barbara Cozens and Tejas Arn, the majority of whom worked free of charge, created the gallery space called The Refinery in central Nelson during the winter of 2003.
On a shoestring budget managed by the Kahurangi Trust the task was completed in September, right on Arts Festivel time. The core of resident artists supply work to the gallery, along with keen artists based in the local community. Check out details at www.fringeartnelson.co.nz
