NASDA, the National Academy of Singing & Dramatic Art Presents: My Favorite Year "My Favorite Year" by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens is a nostalgic, snappy and touchingly funny musical which looks back to the Golden Age of live television, when the clock kept ticking and the first 'take' was always the last. "My Favorite Year" the Musical played on Broadway in 1992 was based on the motion picture "My Favorite Year" which starred Peter O'Toole. The movie version was loosely based on the real life experiences of Mel Brooks when he was a comedy writer on Sid Ceaser's 1950's hit TV comedy "Your Show of Shows". The story begins when a faded Hollywood matinee idol guest-stars on TV's hottest show, the 'King Kaiser Comedy Cavalcade'. Benjy Stone, the wet-behind-the-ears freshman sketch writer lands the task of keeping him in line, away from booze, women and out of the papers until after Saturday night's live performance. The unruly swashbuckler proves to be a handful of trouble for his young companion. But as air-time approaches and tension mounts, Benjy learns that some of the greatest moments in live television - and in life - start with a handful of trouble. If you loved the style of "City of Angels", the energy of "Bat Boy" and the witty humour of "Into the Woods", then "My Favorite Year" is not to be missed. Brought to you by the talented students of NASDA and directed by Stephanie McKellar-Smith and Angela Johnson, with musical direction by Michael Lee Porter and featuring a show band, "My Favorite Year" is a beguiling musical comedy with an exceptionally strong script and stylish, smart score. It is playing in the Jack Mann Auditorium, Christchurch College of Education, Dovedale Avenue, Ilam. The season runs from Thursday 22nd - Thursday 29th of June at 8:00 pm, with two matinees on Saturday 24th of June at 2 pm and Sunday 25th of June at 4 pm. Tickets are $12/$15.
