Music from the Mediterranean In Concert
Those hankering for a European holiday can take a journey through the Mediterranean via music on 6 August at 2.30pm when the Auckland Symphony Orchestra performs at the Auckland Town Hall, THE EDGE ®.
The theme for the concert is 'Music from the Mediterranean'. The theme for the concert is 'Music from the Mediterranean'. The programme includes works by a number of European composers, including Paganini's La Campanella from Concerto No 2 that will feature accomplished young North Shore violinist, Amalia Hall as soloist.The concert runs for 80 minutes with no interval and will be led by the Auckland Symphony Orchestra's affable Conductor and Director of Music, Gary Daverne. Mr Daverne's effusive style is popular with audiences with the orchestra's concerts frequently attracting full houses.
Mr Daverne said August's concert will be seventeen-year-old Amalia's fourth appearance as a soloist with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra: "We are delighted to welcome Amalia back and I am sure this incredibly accomplished young musician will thrill audiences."
Amalia, who completed year 12 at Rangitoto College last year, is currently studying for a BMus at the University of Auckland with Dimitri Atanassov and intends to undertake post-graduate study overseas.
Amalia won the 2006 National Concerto Competition, the 2005 Gisborne International Music Competition and was awarded third prize and the special Bach interpretation prize in the Kloster Schontal International Violin Competition in Germany.
Amalia was a finalist at the 2004 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Japan and winner of the Auckland Philharmonia Young Artist Competition in 2003. In both 2003 and 2004 Amalia's chamber music groups won the Chamber Music New Zealand School Music Contest.
