The recent paintings of suburban cityscapes play with colour and light and explore the notion of an anticipated journey.Though not quite plan-like, the views look down onto suburban and urban places. They were painted in the summer of 2008.
Matthew Carter studied Foundation at Exeter College of Art in 1979/80. He then studied for an Honours Degree at Cardiff School of Art in Wales graduating in 1983. At that time he was working largely in film, sound and narrative text.
In London from 1984, he worked in the television industry, then in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Auckland as a motion graphic designer.
He started to work full time as a painter in July 2007 and is now studying for a Master of Art & Design at Auckland University of Technology.
