Following on from last years Nga Rangatira o te Ao, twelve Maori fashion designers are coming together to once again celebrate Matariki, the rise of the Maori New Year and launch of Matariki Calendar.

The designers this year include Margaret Wilson, Makaarita of Tribal Fibers, Yassime Williamson, Carmel of Aotearoa House, Lorna Dixon, Shona Tawhiao, Taryn of Blackberri, Bethany Edmunds, Tracey Lloyd of Marama designs, Reegan Balzer, Jeanine Clarkin and Male Designer Ali.
Following on from last years Nga Rangatira o te Ao, twelve Maori fashion designers are coming together to once again celebrate Matariki, the rise of the Maori New Year and launch of Matariki Calendar.

The designers this year include Margaret Wilson, Makaarita of Tribal Fibers, Yassime Williamson, Carmel of Aotearoa House, Lorna Dixon, Shona Tawhiao, Taryn of Blackberri, Bethany Edmunds, Tracey Lloyd of Marama designs, Reegan Balzer, Jeanine Clarkin and Male Designer Ali.
The celebrations will kick off with a live fashion show on opening night showcasing the garments to an intimate audience at Disrupt Gallery. Following the fashion show, the designs will continue to be exhibited on mannequins alongside complementary large format photographs.

To tie it all together the production of a complementary calendar insists that the Kaupapa of Matariki be continued throughout the year. The A4 size Calendar is embellished by traditional Maori Whakatauaki and will retail for $20. These will be available on opening night and will continue to be for sale for the duration of the exhibition.

This project incorporates the skill and talent of artists across the arts spectrum. Our aim is to provide a site for both up and coming as well as the established Maori designers to display and present their work in accordance with the Maori calendar year.
