This panui is an invitation to submit your project for public promotion as part of MATARIKI - Maori New Year Festival, Tamaki Makaurau 2004.The opportunity we are offering is to be part of the festival by presenting a project and being part of a coordinated promotional plan which covers a range of mediums, website, printed programme, street posters, media releases and media liaison to your kaupapa.

Individual assistance is available also for funding advice, event organisation, etc.

The types of kaupapa we are looking for celebrate the unique values of Matariki. Visual art exhibitions, performances, wananga, focus on kai, traditional games & pastimes and observations are some of the forms of expression that are already part of this years festival.

We encourage Iwi, Hapuu, Whanau,Taurahere, community groups, government agencies and non-government organisations to participate or tautoko in some form or another.

Matariki profiles Maori who can collectively deliver a diverse and vibrant festival that celebrates the kaupapa of Matariki across various forms and cultural practices. By including a broad cross section of Maori who are specifically celebrating and are committed to exchanging, presenting, Matariki will provide the opportunity to dialogue and build ideas and experiences.
There is no other Maori led annual festival in Tamaki Makaurau that can embrace the diversity and cultural depth of te Iwi Maori. Our intention is to coordinate the dynamic energy of our people and to realize the potential that lies in a festival that honours Matariki. Mei Hill and Stephen Bradshaw are the points of contact for overall organisation and support. Auckland City has been a principal supporter for a number of years and this support is spreading to other organisations to uplift this growing kaupapa for the Te Iwi Maori.

GUIDELINES
-Kaupapa clearly contributes to Matariki.
-Kaupapa is between June 18 - July 17, 2004 - new moon to new moon.
-1 person from your organisation can commit to regular meetings and be point of contact, He kaiarahi.
-Aspects of public safety are taken into full account and remain the responsibility of your project.
-Kaupapa is by Maori for Maori and all New Zealanders
