Martin Hughes Architecture and Interiors, one of New Zealand's premiere design companies, has launched the Martin Hughes Contemporary Pacific Art Award for 2004.

The Martin Hughes Contemporary Pacific Art Award celebrates and supports New Zealand's modern Pacific arts movement and New Zealand artists working within the Pacific genre. This is the Award's fifth year.

Previous Winners of the Award have been the artists Andy Leleisi'uao, Shayne Tuffery, Niki Hastings-McFall and photographer Ross T Smith.

The art disciplines covered by the Award are Printmaking; Painting; Sculpture; Weaving; Tapa/Textiles; Jewellery; Photography; Carving; Multi Media and Installation.

The Award for 2004 is in partnership with Artists Alliance. "We are delighted to be working with Martin Hughes on this wonderful opportunity for artists to expand their horizons" says Maggie Gresson, Executive Director of Artists Alliance.

"This relationship is a perfect fit for the Award and we are looking forward to working with Artists Alliance and continuing on its commitment to the growth of and quality of art that celebrates our place in the world," said John Hughes of Martin Hughes.

Martin Hughes Architecture and Interiors has, for the last 30 years, been at the forefront of incorporating into their design the unique influence or the Pacific through textures, art and colours.

They have developed this Award to highlight the extraordinary work that is being created with Pacific influences.

The Award is a travel award with the winner receiving $3000. The Award is focused on travel as Martin Hughes is committed to giving artists the opportunity to place their work in an international context gaining confidence and strength from the experience.
