Survey is a second stanza to Top Tens. A curated publication project arranged and held at Snowhite in August 2005, Top Tens enabled an endemic index of creative top ten lists from twenty one creative content providers (to borrow Laurie Anderson's phrase).In similar territory, Survey involved forty five people who independently set about perusing a range of New and Old World designs, determining a loosely shared leitmotif from a selection of varied [geo]graphical resources.

The most frequently selected image in the survey, Pattern 18 was a compass drawn design of Islamic origin interpreted by a Persian artist and then imported to the West by a French traveller and collector sometime in the nineteenth century. Fittingly, the complexity and popularity of the pattern enabled it to transcend it's geometric components, a fact which is perhaps reminiscent of it's religious origins.

Empiric explores similarities between the absolute geometry of the Spirograph, a popular 60s toy recalling the peak phase of Modernism; and the Golden Rectangle, a Renaissance attempt at empiricising pure painterly aesthetics.
