After the Christchurch earthquake many artists’ studios, galleries and private homes with art collections were damaged or isolated. A website has been set up by arts commentator Hamish Keith to allow artists and owners to make a record of what is at risk and where it is.

After the Christchurch earthquake many artists’ studios, galleries and private homes with art collections were damaged or isolated. A website has been set up by arts commentator Hamish Keith to allow artists and owners to make a record of what is at risk and where it is.

That record is secure to the owner or artist and will only be passed on to earthquake recovery authorities.

Hamish Keith says on the website that “it is important that these details go on record as soon as possible.”

If you have works of art, antiques or other cultural valuables at risk in Christchurch you can record them on LostArtChch.org.nz. Just a brief description of the works and where they are and what state you think the building is in and whether you have access or not.

This information is only available to you and to the site administrator. The website will pass these details on to earthquake recovery so they will be aware that care must be taken when dealing with your building, house, studio or gallery.
