Loop Select 008: Rare Vision (The Exhibition) introduces four local artists: Rebekah Atkins, Flox, Buggy G and Guy Pask. The first exhibition from the long-running Loop Select series, the move is both a natural progression and a supportive step towards flaunting more of New Zealand's visual arts talent. The first exhibition from the long-running Loop Select series, the move is both a natural progression and a supportive step towards flaunting more of New Zealand's visual arts talent.The key motive behind the Loop Select series has always been to create a contemporary fusion of music, art and film contained in one accessible package. Initially, Loop Select 008: Rare Vision had grown from this motive by providing the first e-book to showcase New Zealand artists (available online at www.loopselect.com). Now, with Loop Select 008: Rare Vision (The Exhibition), Loop is excited to give people the opportunity to physically step inside the Loop Select world.

Opened in June 2006 as a part of The Depot Artspace, Satellite Gallery was chosen as the exhibition venue because of its role as an incubator for young creative talent, providing a nourishing environment in a refined space for emerging professional artists.

The artists

Rebekah Atkins is known for her detailed hand-drawn, multi media/stencil paintings of soul musicians which she impresses on canvas, custom cut wood and household objects. After studying for two years in New York, she returned to New Zealand and became a co-founder in Rise and Shine Productions, a move which stemmed a creative community that travelled around New Zealand. Rebekah Atkins will show a collage of her original drawings, symbolism of type and imagery.

The work of Flox credibly blends Art Nouveau with Kiwiana, adding layers and drop shadows of a graphic designer. Although deeply nestled in art history with allusions to past movements, pieces by Flox retain strong connections to modern fashion, street culture and graph-art which comfortably position her work in the contemporary pop-culture scene.

Buggy G defies conventional photography which is why he describes himself as an "image maker". With a record of work ranging from band photography for NME Magazine, through to designing the visual computer for the film Lost In Space, Buggy G's current work focuses on visually striking and strongly emotive images of New Zealand's West Coast beaches.

Guy Pask's work has been recognised and awarded locally and internationally over the last 15 years. He is the founding partner and creative director of Strategy Design and Advertising. Most recently he is known for producing the visual publication Rapaki, a collection of intimate photographs taken at the Ngai Tahu tribe's annual meeting at Banks Peninsula in 2005.
