Following in Janet Frame's footsteps, Wellington writer Lloyd Jones has won a Commonwealth Writers' Prize best book award for the novel Mr Pip. He is now in the running for the overall best book award, which will be announced in May. The only New Zealand writer awarded the Commonwealth Writers' Prize is Janet Frame, who won it in 1989 for The Carpathians.
