Wellington writer Lloyd Jones' novel Mister Pip is on a short list of six for the Man Booker Prize, and is now the surprise bookies' favourite to win the prestigious award, reports The Dominion Post. The last New Zealand author to win the prize - worth NZ$144,000 - was Keri Hulme for The Bone People in 1985. Mister Pip was at first considered an outsider with a 20-1 chance of winning, but a British bookmaker is now listing the novel as favourite with odds of 2-1.
