Moana & the Tribe will be based in Europe during June and July, touring to support the release of their DVD 'Live and Proud.' It's believed to be the first commercial DVD release by a NZ band into Europe.The DVD packs eight music videos, live performances, a couple of documentaries into 135 minutes and is sub-titled into four European languages.

'With the DVD, people gain an insight not only into the music but also into us as Maori,' says Tour Manager Toby Mills. 'It puts the music into a context.'

The band will launch the DVD in Berlin on June 9 at a party to be hosted with the N.Z Embassy and Tourism NZ after a performance at the famous Berlin Festival der Kulteren. On June 10, a 45 minute live performance by Moana & the Tribe at the famous Chiemsee Reggae Festival will be broadcast throughout Germany.

Moana & the Tribe are also riding the wave of 'The Whale Rider' - by performing in celebration of the launch of the N.Z feature film in Cologne at the Cine Nova on June 16.

'We sang at the Australian launch of 'The Whale Rider,' says lead singer Moana. 'And we've been invited to celebrate the release of the film in Germany and Belgium.'

The 10 member collective of musicians, singers, traditional performers and filmmakers will perform almost forty concerts over nearly two months throughout Europe, including the Tollwood Festival (Munich), Danube Island Festival (Vienna), Amsterdam Roots Festival (Holland) and the St Gallen Festival (Switzerland) where they join N.Zs top international group The Datsuns and reggae superstar Jimmy Cliff.

The band then spend 10 days performing thoughout Greece as guests of the Olympic Committee at the Cultural Olympiad Festival. The group releases 'TORU' in N.Z in August.
