On Friday 17 September the international Crowbar Student Awards were held in Singapore. Over 11,000 entries from around the world were submitted for one of thirteen categories across a range of creative disciplines.
Students from AXIS Adschool at Media Design School entered four categories resulting in a whitewash of awards in the areas of print, poster, radio and radio script advertising.
In total seven AXIS Adschool students walked away with awards and a further three with finalist status signifying New Zealand's creative innovation.
In addition to two prestigious gold awards and four bronze awards, creative team Andrea Price and Sarut Ekwisahn took away the Best in Show accolade, the top prize of a fully paid internship with a top Singaporean agency and a cash prize.
In addition to the Best of Show, AXIS Adschool students also took away two Gold and four Bronze awards and three finalist positions.
David Bell, the course leader from AXIS Adschool, was in Singapore to receive the awards on behalf of his students. "It was an amazing night, with some fantastic work on display. Asia Pacific is an emerging hotspot of creativity, so it is great to be able to benchmark our students work against those from other countries. The sheer number and ranking of the awards provided to the AXIS Adschool students perfectly illustrates the high calibre of work being produced by our students. Special thanks for their success must also go to the Newspaper Advertising Bureau who provided sponsorship of twelve entries for top New Zealand students back in July this year".
Best of Show and Gold Award winning student Andrea Price was truly astounded by her, and her creative partner, Sarut Ekwisahn's success. "Our awards can be attributed to the culture at Media Design School that constantly pushes for excellence. Singapore is known as an advertising hot spot, which makes our awards even more valuable".
"Sarut and I are really looking forward to our internship in Singapore where we hope to be further inspired by leading Asia Pacific creatives, before returning home to New Zealand to produce our own unique form of creative innovation in the local advertising industry" said Andrea.
Ben Pegler's two bronze awards and one finalist provided reassurance of just how savvy the New Zealand advertising market has become. "It is cool to know we can be so competitive at the highest level of advertising. It is great for New Zealand advertising to be recognised on the world stage," said Ben. "We are now looking to see how we do at the Young Gun's Awards coming up in Australia".
