The BSIDE Forum committee is inviting all independent theatre practitioners to Wellington's second BSIDE at BATS Theatre this weekend.

This year's two-day forum will cover the issues facing theatre makers and will also set up groups to carry on the work and explore solutions.

"We really need these kind of events to draw our sector together, and to find ways we can collectively work towards improving working conditions which will lead to more exciting theatre in our region," says committee member Jo Randerson.

Last September more than 80 independent practitioners attended the first BSIDE.

"The first BSide was a very impressive gathering of individuals and there was a great feeling of optimism about future possibilities. We were delighted at how enthusiastic, serious and open-minded the discussions were," says Randerson.

Using Open Space Technology, a format that places responsibility for the agenda and discussions with the participants, 25 separate discussions took place on issues ranging from advocacy for independent practitioners to the teaching of Maori theatre in tertiary institutes to 'how do we make our work better'.

This one-day event barely scratched the surface of issues facing theatre makers in NZ and participants voted unanimously for a second BSIDE.

This year's BSIDE will go one step further. "By being held over two days we will have time to go into much more detail," says committee member Miria George.

"The format for the second day also allows for the prioritising and converging of the issues raised and for the setting up of groups to take the work further."

The BSIDE is currently taking registrations for the two-day forum.
Day One is on Saturday March 29 from 10am to 5pm and Day Two is on Sunday March 30 from 10am to 3pm.
