Janne Vanhannen is a Finnish scholar of aesthetics from the University of Helsinki, interested in the junctures of contemporary philosophy, technology and art, especially in music and phonography. Janne will give a public lecture as part of the Easy Listening series on Tuesday 4 April in the Auckland Art Gallery auditorium. Loving the Ghost in the Machine: The Aesthetics of Interruption, recently at the Refrains Conference in UBC Vancouver, Canada. AS JV*C his low-tech photocopy
graphic designs have appeared on posters and limited-edition recordings and he can sometimes be seen and heard DJ'ing in various low-key occasions.

On Thursday 6 April Janne will contribute to an evening of performance and discussion titled "Sound Matters". Performances will be given by Adam Willetts, Phil Dadson, Simon Cumings, Sean Kerr, Tim Coster and Andrew Scott. Speculation and commentary on sound and materiality will
be offered by Stella Brennan, Andrew Clifford, Rachel Shearer and Janne Vanhanen. Janne will also work with students while he is here discussing contemporary theoretical approaches to contemporary sound cultures.
