Oliver Knust is a Chilean promoter, manager and music video director. A founding member of the Independent Music Industry Chile (IMI Chile), Oliver is considered as an engine of change and innovation in the Chilean music scene. Recognized as one of the most innovative promoter/managers in Chile, he re-introduced the vinyl format in Chile, changing the Chilean indie scene. Oliver is the founder and director of the indie label and booking agency Discos Río Bueno, successfully introducing new bands to the international market. He is the Producer of the concert agendas for the Chilean film festivals In-Edit and Festival Internacional de Cine Valdivia (FICV). Oliver is also the booker of the well-known live rock bar in Santiago, Bar Loreto.

Ahead of this weekend's Going Global Music Summit, we ask Oliver about what music is influencing him these days.

What five songs would best depict the soundtrack to your day, today?

Kyuss - Supa scoopa and mighty scoop

The Ganjas - Riot Dub

Pedropiedra - Occidental

Bonobo - Break Apart

Miles Davis - So What

What is your favourite music-associated movie, and why?

High Fidelity! The characters are very well built, and people who like music feel very identified with them.

What is the craziest music industry experience you have had?

A party of the Kontakt record label during the C/O Pop conference in Cologne, Germany. There was an electrical problem and the lights of the whole club went out. The party went on totally dark for hours, the sound continued going, we could´t see anything. I had to be guided by touch, a very dangerous thing in Cologne.

What is the best social media campaign you have run?

Our own festival and conference called Fluvial had a dynamic and successful campaign last year. It's a music industry event that brings people from across Chile to network and see the best new - and revered not-so-new - music.

What are your favourite music videos?

Here are two amazing examples of dramatically different videos:

Aphex Twin - Window Licker

Jacobites- Don't You Ever Leave Me

Have you ever been to New Zealand?

No, I have not. I imagine somehow a country similar to Chile. At the south-end of the world, with many beautiful mountains.

What New Zealand bands are you listening to?

I just found out about some awesome NZ rock classics:

La La De Da´s

Split Enz

Th´ Dudes

What is your favourite long-haul airplane activity?

I have a special talent for sleeping very well on airplanes. The flight from Santiago to Auckland I think is one of the most horrifyingly long on the planet! I'm ready to test this talent.

What one song represents New Zealand, to you?

Crowded house - Don't dream it's over

Flat white, long black or fluffy?

Long black
