Creative New Zealand offers a three-month residency for a New Zealand writer to participate in the University of Iowa Writing Program.
The residency is suitable for nationally recognised writers of fiction, poetry, drama, children's fiction, screenplays, biography or cultural commentary, who have previously published at least on volume of work. Candidates for the program should be interested in interaction with writers from diverse cultures. Participants are given periods of unstructured time to work on their own writing projects but some afternoons will feature literary activities, excursions and field trips.
The residency runs from approximately August to November and provides return travel to Iowa, U.S.A., assistance with living expenses and accommodation in the Iowa House situated on the campus of the University of Iowa. While in Iowa the writer will be given the opportunity to participate in panel discussions and readings.
The last two weeks will be spent in Nebraska City where time can be given entirely to
writing.
Candidates are encouraged to take their own word-processing equipment (laptop computer, software), although the program administration can assist with sourcing this on-site.
