Designed to take place over three consecutive weekends, this years programme is laced with art practitioners across a multitude of disciplines. The Moving Image Centre sees Interdigitate as an essential part of its annual programme. The artists we have selected reflect and share an artistic vision of screen-based work that is at the cutting edge of new media art, installation and performance.
Akram Zaatari with Margot Didsbury present 'Map Sitting, on Portraiture and Photography'
Originally a photographic installation, Zaatari will present this work as a live video performance with electronic sound accompaniment by Margot Didsbury. The work is an inquiry into the history of Middle Eastern photography recontextualised by the passing of time. Akram Zaatari (Lebanon) is an internationally respected photographer, video artist, film maker and curator. He founded the Arab Image Foundation, has exhibited his work internationally for over 10 years and has recently been selected for the 2006 Sydney Biennale.
The Supervisors featuring Mike Busy and Lakshman Anandanayagam present 'Hip Hoptics'.
A live audio visual journey using digital debris sourced from preexisting narrative structures to create new mutated imagery. The philosophies of hip hop culture, sampling, remixing and recontextualising form the basis of this tech-hop performance. Mike Busy has a background in media and design and has been creating live visual performance for over 10 years. Lakshman has a background in medicine and design. Both Mike & Lakshman are members of Nektar Creative, specialising in broadcast motion design and visual installation across television, fashion and within the traditional gallery context.

Jed Town presents 'Cloud scapes of Aotearoa' a live video and audio performance inspired by the vast expanse of the sky.
Jed Town is one of New Zealand's pioneering video artists. He formed the Fetus Productions art collective in 1980 and has gone on to present his visceral imagery across the platforms of sound, video and installation. He has released music on the Flying Nun label, directed award winning short film, vj'd & dj'd internationally and staged gallery installations.
Warwick Blair presents 'Accordian'
Utilising electronic composition, live instrumentation, video art and dance this genre-bending new media work comes highly anticipated. Warwick Blair has been described as one of New Zealand's most original musical thinkers. Blair's twenty year career has included working along side 'Scanner', composing for film, t.v, multi media and fashion shows along with live orchestral concerts both within New Zealand and internationally.

Emil McAvoy & Damian Stewart present 'Reciprocity'
An improvised collaborative audio visual piece. By recording the performance space it becomes a self aware organism reading and writing itself, performing itself into existence. Emil McAvoy is an interdisciplinary artist working in live video, experimental film and photography. Damian Stewart (aka Frey) is an experimental electronic sound artist who works primarily with feedback as a compositional tool.
Rob Appierdo presents 'Beautiful City'
Incorporating live dance, music and video performance, Beautiful City explores the clash between urban and rural N.Z. It compares the energy of the city (through improvised dance) with the open territory of the haunting Desert Road. Robert Appierdo has worked as a video artist for over 10 years, recently providing visuals for Rhian Sheehan both here and in Australia. Rob has collaborated extensively with local theatre companies culminating in live video projections for 'A ClockWork Orange' at the AK05 Festival.
Sue Gallagher presents 'Space Invader'
A piece concerned with light-ness as an approach to the conceptualisation and realisation of space. Sue Gallagher is an artist working across performance, moving image and architecture. 'Space Invader' consultants include Helen Todd for lighting, and Elvon Young for studio research.
