Launched in NZ for the sole purpose of donating 100% of its profits to Oxfam, Good Books features a huge range of international titles, competitive prices, and offers a fast-paced delivery for free.In a unique collaboration between the commercial sector and a charitable trust, Good Books New Zealand has partnered with The Paperback Shop UK, a major global internet book dealer and one of Amazon's leading suppliers of international titles.
For Good Books founder, Dr Jane Cherrington, the project has served a long-standing ambition to build bridges between private and public sector interests to positive effect. So when she was approached to set up an 'Amazon alternative' in internet book sales, realised she was being handed the opportunity to do just that.
"I chose Oxfam because it represents a powerful, committed organisation that puts poverty reduction and sustainable development at the core of its work. Oxfam is already working very effectively and I wanted to contribute to that."
Barry Coates, Executive Director of Oxfam New Zealand, says they are thrilled to be a partner in such a visionary project.
"Many organisations give a small part of their profits to charity, but Dr Cherrington is proposing something far more innovative and radical. All the profits from Good Books will go to fight to make poverty history, a campaign that is generating resonance around the world," he says.
